VERDICT: .......the rod feels incredibly light and really hides its true casting potential until you put it through its paces. It has a extra fast action and does initially feel very stiff-that is until you put a line on it and start casting. Suddenly it’s a different creature. It was fairly easy to load with short and medium head lengths and I was able to produce tight loops and crisp turnover, but where it really excelled was with longer head lengths for effortless distance casting with the same turnover and accuracy. It proved more than capable of handling the whole range of lines, but was especially effective with the medium to-fast sinkers. Fittings and finish are understated, there’s nothing flash about this rod but it is all of high quality. Not an ideal beginners choice, but then no fast tip action rod would be, but a rod for the angler who has improved his technique and is looking to upgrade and strive for greater distance and control. And at a cracking price.

VISION PAIRS - REPORT AND RESULTS
May 24th and Rutland Water staged the inaugural Vision Pairs International competition, with anglers travelling from around Europe to compete in the prestigious event with over £3,000 of prizes with awards going from first to tenth.
The fleet was pretty much split with half motoring to the Main Basin and North Arm and the rest to Sailing Club Bay, Yellowstone, Old Hall Bay, Lax Hill and Manton Bay. The conditions dictated the tactics and most anglers opted for Nymphs fished under the bung. Winner Ron Gent fish three epoxy Buzzers under the Bung for his eight fish from Manton Bay with all fish taking either the point or middle dropper. Ron’s partner Clive Morgan eventually got his set-up right and also caught his fish on Black Buzzers under the Bung at Yellowstone.
The Biggest fish of the day a cracking 6lb 2oz brown went to late entry Rob Edmunds who caught the specimen in Manton Bay, by fishing 4 traffic light buzzers static on a Midge Tip line.

With a revolutionary design that allows for
incredible loop stability at distance, a unique taper that allows a rod
to load at close range and a positive front taper that delivers perfect
presentation of flies between sizes #22 and #2, the RIO Gold is the
ultimate all round, floating line for freshwater fly fishing. The long
back taper is excellent for mending and for roll and spey casting and
the running line and head are different colors, making it easy to find
the line’s perfect loading point. The line features RIO’s new XS
Technology™ for an extraordinarily slick,dirt-repelling coating, in
addition to RIO’s AgentX® and Super Floatation Technology™ that ensure
the tip and the running line will float high.A welded loop on the front
end of the fly line facilitates changing leaders.

The drag system in Konic uses the same fully
machined parts, as the drag used in the £350+ Waterworks reels or any
of our other high-end reels. Pressure Casting with molten ALDC12
aluminum alloy injected at 1,080 kgs pressure to ensure consistent,
smooth and strong parts. Contrast this method with the Gravity Casting
used by competitors. Frame and spool are solid single-part pieces.
Again, contrast this with 2-part cast spools that our competition use.
Lamson use a solid polyurethane coating to provide a finish that is
very resistant to gouging and abrasion rather than weaker electrostatic
paints that are on many other reels. The Konic is a lightweight, true
large arbor reel.
